Adacel Technologies Limited (Adacel), a provider of advanced air traffic management solutions and simulation and training systems, has announced a new contract with NAV Portugal for onsite Aurora Air Traffic Management (ATM) system support through local Field Service Representatives as well as remote support from Adacel’s Montreal facility. The five-year contract value is estimated at approximately US$4.5 million.
NAV Portugal’s Aurora ATM system, also referenced by NAV Portugal as System Atlantico or SATL, has been operational since 2001. The system provides state-of-the- art oceanic air traffic management services in the Santa Maria Flight Information Region (FIR) and is also used to control local traffic within the Azores. In addition to the Oceanic Area Control Centre, Aurora Tower Display systems are located at four local airports.
“NAV Portugal has been an outstanding provider of air traffic services in the ICAO NAT region and a deeply valued Adacel customer. I cannot think of a better day and place to renew our steadfast commitment to our customer than on the Inauguration Day of this newly renovated Santa Maria Operation Center as we join NAV Portugal to also celebrate their 20th anniversary of the Aurora/SATL system commissioning,” shares Daniel Verret, Adacel’s CEO. “We applaud NAV Portugal’s unwavering dedication to evolve its ATM systems to meet the ever-changing demands of air traffic management and look forward to supporting our customer on their quest to advance safety and efficiency in aviation,” continues Mr. Verret.
Egídia Martins, a member of the NAV Portugal Board of Directors, said, “The contract is a commitment to ensure the highest availability and support of the main ATM system of the Santa Maria FIR, the SATL. The services of the contract will help ensure that NAV Portugal continues to meet the needs of the users of the oceanic airspace.”
